MBC announces its plans for a new "Idol Star Athletics Championships" spin-off!
It was reported last month that MBC was planning a brand new idol dog agility competition as a Chuseok special. However, the South Korean government insisted on stricter social distancing rules due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moreover, the network has announced that they would be canceling all the indoor activities for its "2020 Idol Star Athletics Championship – Chuseok Special." Also, the future of the dog agility competition became unclear as well.
However, on September 7, it was confirmed by MBC that the spin-off competition will be moving forward and will have an adorable literal translation named "Idol Woof Woof Athletics Championship." Joy from Red Velvet and Jun Hyun Moo were chosen as hosts for the said show.
Generally speaking, the upcoming competition producers announced that they would be holding a dog sports agility competition in which idols will participate together with their dogs. The network also planned to air fun and lovable programs that would capture the overflowing charms of the idol handlers and their canine athletes.
Correspondingly, 11 teams with their dogs, which have already been trained for two months, will be competing in the event. From the previous month, Youngjae of GOT7, Moonbyul of MAMAMOO, Shuhua of (G)I-DLE, Kim Woo Seok of UP10TION, Soobin of WJSN, Jisoo of Lovelyz, and Bomin and Jaehyun of Golden Child were confirmed as participants of the show.
The "Idol Woof Woof Athletics Championships" shows idols directing their dogs through different obstacles and challenges to test their agility. Additionally, the competition will be held outdoors and with a lot of space to distance the participating icons and their dogs.
To avoid the risk of contracting the virus, the production crew and management are strict with the precautionary measures to avoid the spread of the COVID-19 and secure the participants' health.
