BTS' company, Big Hit Entertainment, has revealed its update about the legal action against the group's malicious commenter.
On September 24, Big Hit Entertainment announced the process of legal action against malicious commenters about BTS online. BTS' label released an official statement about the negative commenter that has been filed with the case of defamation and was charged with a maximum sentence.
In the statement, Big Hit Entertainment stated that they already filed three separate cases for defamation grounds.
"On July 30 and September 1, 2020, the Seoul Eastern District Court sentence the perpetrator, who had engaged in repeated defamatory activities, to 4 million Won ($3,400) in total fines for all three cases, including a maximum sentence allowed by law", the agency said.
Big Hit Entertainment stated that they are looking to file criminal cases to individuals who continue to operate internet accounts and make a malicious posting. BTS' label added that if these perpetrators continue to engage in illegal activities after a court sentence, the company is ready to file for damages in civil court, and there will be no settlement or leniency.
"Please note that posts that take the police investigation lightly or spread false information about the complaint are also being submitted to the court as additional evidence for strong punishment," said the label.
The company continued that they had filed additional criminal complaints using new information provided by fans as well as collected through there monitoring initiatives. BTS' label will continue to collect data on malicious comments about the K-pop group.
Finally, Big Hit Entertainment urged BTS fans to report negative commenters online regarding BTS and use the hotline (protect@bighitcorp.com) in online abuse cases about the group. The label then appreciated the fans for their continued support for the K-pop idols and will continue to work to protect their artist's rights.
