Sunmi, together with JYP Entertainment founder Park Jin Young, recently appeared on MBC's Radio Star and talked about their duet "When We Disco."
Sunmi unveils the story behind how she released "When We Disco" with Park Jin Young. Sunmi shared that she had been eating in a restaurant when she heard a song that she and Park Jin Young were listening to during their New York tour.
Sunmi immediately recorded the song on her phone, happy listening to a song from the past, and sent the recording to Park Jin Young. She later revealed that Park Jin Young gave her a demo song in response.
Furthermore, Park Jin Young shared that he texted Sunmi if she missed the days when they worked together. "Sunmi has left no choice but to say yes."
Sunmi then explained that he said to Park Jin Young that she'd work with him, thinking that she'd just be featuring in the song, but when the idol read the entire lyrics, it revealed that she would be singing the whole verse. She then asked Park Jin Young if it was a duet, and with a smiley emoji, he said yes on the text.
The singer continued saying that she asked him if he was thinking anyone else for the song, and Park Jin Young responded "no," and no one else but her.
Sunmi, in the interview, also shared a funny story about her difficult time touring with in the United States with the Wonder Girls. She revealed living inside their tour bus during the span of their tour and had to share a bunk bed—Park Jin Young on the third level, and her on the second level.
She shared that Park Jin Young go up to the third level of the bunk bed, and his bed would sink so much, while Sunmi being on the second felt like sleeping inside a coffin.
Park Jin Young revealed that Wonder Girls was the last artist that he was able to get close with. "I got to take care of Wonder Girls and g.o.d myself, but after there were many things like problems I encountered in the agency, I couldn't see everyone as much anymore."
