South Korean actress Lee Joo Young wins the 'Rising Star Award' in the forthcoming 'New York Asian Film Festival' for her movie titled 'Baseball Girl.'
The said film was released last June 18 following the main character's story, Joo Soo In. Like in 'Weightlifting Fairy,' playing Kim Bok Joo's friend's role, she embodied the character's athleticism perfectly.
The story goes on as a female player on her high school baseball team that earns the nickname "genius baseball girl" because of her high speed throwing skill. Her struggles come as she faces off against the odds to become a professional baseball player after graduation.
The inspirational film was dreamed up when the screenplay writer learned that there are no rules prohibiting women from playing professional baseball. Lee Joo Young does an impeccable job of playing Joo Soo In, a woman who became the first licensed female baseballer.
The movie was invited to the 24th Busan International Film Festival in 2019 and then the 45th Seoul Independent Film Festival, where Lee Joo Young won the Independent Star Award for her role.
Meanwhile, Lee Joo Young becomes the new Korean actress to receive the coveted "Screen International Rising Star Asia Award" at the 2020 New York Asian Film Festival, which will take place from August 28 to September 12.
New York Asian Film Festival is a representative Asian film festival in North America. They select unique films in a variety of genres from blockbusters, art-house, and cult films. Unlike the previous years that the event was held in-live, the festival will be held virtually due to the pandemic.
Lee Joo Young expresses gratitude through her agency, Ace Factory. She said, "I am glad to hear the good news. It will be an honor for Baseball Girl to be a little hope and joy to someone having a difficult time due to recent happenings. I want to meet you all soon. From the bottom of my heart, thank you."
