Public figures continue to help those severely affected by the persistent torrential downpours and flooding in Korea.
Torrential rains have been swamping the country in unprecedented quantities since Korea's rainy season began in June. Such monsoon rainfall focused on Korea's central and southern regions has engulfed residential neighborhoods, prompting thousands of evacuation.
The Korea Disaster Relief Association announced on August 11 that IU has provided 100 million won charitable contributions (estimated $84,400) to help the victims of the heavy rains and flooding.
IU is known for making regular contributions, and she even volunteered during the COVID-19 pandemic in May to support low-income families. Idol and actress Suzy also made a monetary donation. On August 11, OSEN announced that Suzy silently contributed the Korea Disaster Relief Association 100 million won.
Suzy is yet another actress who gives to charity regularly. Profits from her beauty books have previously been used for personal hygiene products in Korea for young women with low incomes.
Ong Seong Wu has also contributed around 10 million won (about $8,440) through the Korea Disaster Relief Association to help rebuild communities affected by the disaster, as per Star news.
A spokesperson from his Fantagio company stated, "It is true that Ong Seong Wu has donated. He's the type to do this because he normally donates without telling us, and the agency didn't know about his charitable contribution." (via Soompi)
The Korea Disaster Relief Association reported on August 11 that Park Ji Hoon also allocated 10 million won, hoping this contribution would help the victims recover from severe flooding. It's revealed that he donated the money himself instead of through his firm straight to the organization.
Moreover, through the Korea Disaster Relief Association, Han Ji Min has donated 50 million won (roughly $42,200) for the same cause. The same star made a generous contribution in March in measures to combat COVID-19.
