Pledis Entertainment released a statement on June 19 regarding the upcoming promotions of SEVENTEEN. The agency confirmed, “It’s true that SEVENTEEN will not be appearing on MBC’s ‘Music Core’ following their comeback.”
Although a specific reason was not stated by Pledis, the media speculated that it has something to with Pledis Entertainment being acquired by Big Hit Entertainment just recently.
It was rumored previously that Big Hit Entertainment has a conflict with MBC. The conflict allegedly began due to disputes during the '2018 MBC Gayo Daejejeon'. To further prove the point, no artists from Big Hit Entertainment has appeared on ‘Music Core’ since May 2019.
Since Pledis’ announcement, SEVENTEEN’s fans have not been at rest, demanding more explanation from the agency. Some fans pointed out that Big Hit’s artists were still seen appearing on other MBCEVERY1 shows like ‘Weekly Idol’ and speculated that the conflict must be between the staff of MBC and Big Hit only.
Meanwhile, MBC’s ‘Music Core’ just released a statement today regarding Pledis Entertainment’s previous announcement which read as follows:
“Hello. This is MBC’s ‘Music Core.’
The staff of ‘Music Core’ is always working hard to invite singers from many different genres to our program to create stages that stand out from other music programs.
The staff has sent requests for SEVENTEEN to appear on our show, and we wish for them to appear on our show and perform for our viewers.
The ‘Music Core’ staff will continue to work hard to create the greatest stages for fans of K-pop.
Thank you.”
For now, fans will have to wait and stay tuned to see if Pledis Entertainment and SEVENTEEN will decide to promote their comeback title track ‘Left & Right’ on 'Music Core' after their mini-album release on June 22 at 6 PM KST.
Meanwhile, the boy group will also be hosting their very own Mnet comeback show on June 22 at 7 PM KST.
